|One of the major premises for establishing the Richmond Historical Society was to organize a collection of genealogical materials pertaining to the early settlers and the subsequent residents in the Town of Richmond, Rhode Island. Lucy Rawlings Tootell began assembling early family names by researching town and military records. Carl Stoner, recorder of historic cemeteries added the results of his discoveries (there are more than 75 marked historic cemeteries within the bounds of Richmond). Many people from out-of-state who have discovered Richmond forebears in their family line have shared their research results with us. Already, by reading this statement, you have directions on starting your own family search; you may continue by examining the hand, oft-repeated, and typed papers and records which are constantly growing in our files. Research hours are at the Clark Memorial Library on Wednesdays 10:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. or by appointment.
